Atlas-Copco-Wastewater-Installation

In the wastewater treatment process, millions of bacteria feed on organic waste, breaking it down into carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water. Because these bacteria require oxygen as part of this process, large quantities of air are blown into aeration tanks, in turn, generating high electricity costs. Our goal at Atlas Copco is to provide wastewater facilities with the latest technologies that increase energy savings.

Screw versus Centrifugal for Wastewater Treatment Applications

Depending on the amount of wastewater requiring treatment and the specific needs of the plant, a wastewater treatment facility may consider a variety of blowers and air compressors for their applications.

For instance, at a wastewater treatment facility with deep sedimentation tanks 10 meters high and 8.5 meters deep, the challenge is to produce the desired quantity of high-pressure compressed air without spending a fortune on energy. Centrifugal compressors with magnetic bearings are an efficient choice for the specific application, providing the high pressure air required at the lowest energy consumption.

For a wastewater treatment facility that processes 3 million cubic meters of sewage water every year, multiple blowers are needed to supply compressed air between 1,500-3,500 cubic meters per hour. Atlas Copco ZS oil-free screw blowers with variable speed drive are up to 40 percent more energy efficient than tri-lobe blowers and can save wastewater treatment facilities thousands of dollars annually on their electricity bills.

New Blower Technology to be Revealed at WEFTEC

This fall, we’re excited to roll out our new, innovative low pressure blower technology at the 2015 Water Environment Federation Technical Exhibition and Conference (WEFTEC). Hosted from Sept. 26-30 at McCormick Place in Chicago, WEFTEC is the wastewater industry’s flagship tradeshow.

In addition to the new technology, the booth will also feature the ZS range of oil-free screw blowers. Not only is the ZS 40 percent more energy efficient than a tri-lobe blower, but it also complies with ISO 8573-1 Class Zero certification for 100 percent oil-free air, completely eliminating the risk of oil contamination.

Don’t Miss Our Special Product Launch Events at WEFTEC

Make sure you attend our special hospitality events, which will take place on Sept. 28 and 29 at 3 p.m. at the Atlas Copco booth No. 4449. Beverages and hors d’oeuvres will be provided. Whether you want to learn more about our new blower technology or if you want to better understand when to choose screw blower technology or centrifugal technology, our service and sales representatives will be there to help.
